How to use 了
New Situation + 了
Final 了 often gives an announcement the sense that a new situation applies now. It can mark a transition into an activity, a newly understood fact, or the arrival of a relevant moment. English may express that transition with “now,” even though the Chinese sentence does not contain 现在.
The particle itself does not identify a clock time or guarantee that an action is finished. An announcement about leaving may concern the speaker's immediate intention, while a statement about arriving can describe a newly relevant arrival. Context resolves the timing. Use 现在 when the actual time reference needs stating, and recognize that final 了 adds the speaker's presentation of a change or transition.
