Chinese reading worksheets

Three short Chinese readings with printable student sheets, vocabulary practice and separate answer keys. Use them on paper or alongside the free readings on this website.

How to use the worksheets

  1. Give students the Chinese-only sheet. Ask them to read the story and mark unfamiliar words.
  2. Use the online reading when pinyin or English support is helpful.
  3. Answer the comprehension questions, then compare the evidence in the text.
  4. Recall the vocabulary meanings and write one new sentence. Check the separate answer key together.

Difficulty labels describe the reading, not an official HSK level. Adjust the support and time to your class. No app or account is needed for the website activity.

Print or save a PDF

Open a student sheet or answer key, then use your browser’s Print command. Choose paper or Save as PDF. Student sheets contain the story, comprehension questions, a vocabulary worksheet and space for a new sentence. Answers are on a separate page, so they will not appear when you print a student sheet.

You may print, copy and share these original Laowai sheets for your own learning or teaching. Keep the Laowai credit and page link with copies. This permission covers these original activities, not unrelated third-party books or app content.

The earlier commute activity and teacher notes (PDF) remain available.
