How to use 多

Sentence pattern

Subj. + 多 + Adj.

多 can introduce an emotional evaluation of a quality rather than ask for its degree. In this exclamatory use, the speaker already recognizes the quality and reacts to it. The adjective follows 多, while the subject can appear before it or be understood from the situation being discussed.

A final 啊 often supports the expressive tone, although it is not the only way to signal the intended reading. The same basic combination of 多 and an adjective can form a genuine question, so context and intonation matter. Compared with an ordinary statement using 很, an exclamation with 多 draws attention to the speaker's feeling about how striking the quality is.
