Sentence pattern

Subject + 一面 + action 1 + 一面 + action 2

一面…一面 presents two activities as taking place alongside each other. The subject normally participates in both, and the sentence highlights their overlap rather than a sequence in which one finishes before the other starts. It can describe a brief scene or a habitual way of combining activities. The two actions do not need to begin and end at precisely identical moments.

Place one 一面 before each action phrase, keeping any objects and modifiers inside the appropriate phrase. This pattern is similar to 一边…一边 and often sounds somewhat more written or formal. It describes simultaneous activities, so use a different construction when the intended relationship is cause, contrast, or one action followed by another.
