How to use 任何

Sentence pattern

任何 + noun + 都 / 也 + predicate

任何 modifies a noun to leave the choice of individual unrestricted. It can mean any member of a class, whoever is involved, or whatever item fits the description. In a prohibition or negative statement, the scope extends across the whole relevant group. The noun names that group, while context establishes how broad the intended range really is.

The phrase commonly appears with 都 or 也 in the predicate, especially when asserting that the statement applies regardless of which member is chosen. It can also occur in other grammatical positions where an unrestricted noun phrase is needed. Avoid treating 任何 as a question word: it does not request the listener to identify one particular choice.
