How to use 怪不得、难怪

Sentence pattern

Reason ,怪不得 / 难怪 + Observation

怪不得 and 难怪 express that an observation now makes sense in light of a reason. The speaker often learns new information and recognizes how it explains something noticed earlier. Put the reason first and introduce the understood observation with either expression, or rely on a reason already established in the conversation.

The order can also begin with the observation and then reveal its explanation using 原来. The core effect is recognition, rather than a claim that everyone should have predicted the event beforehand. Both expressions can stand alone as a response when the connection is obvious. Pay attention to context because 难怪 also participates in other expressions concerning whether someone should be blamed.
