How to use 给;为
Subject + 给 + recipient + action; subject + 为 + beneficiary / concern + predicate
给 often identifies the recipient or person toward whom an action is directed. 为 frequently introduces whose benefit, cause, responsibility, or concern motivates a predicate. Both may translate as for, but the English word covers relationships that Chinese distinguishes. The overlap is clearest with actions that can be viewed either as something done for a recipient or as a contribution to someone's interests.
The verb's usual combinations are essential. Calling or sending a message normally takes 给, while working for an organization and feeling happy for someone commonly take 为. Formality can influence the choice, but kindness versus obligation is not a dependable rule. Learn each construction with its verb and intended relationship rather than substituting one preposition mechanically.
